Two entries entered into the IESNYC (Illuminating Engineers Society New York City) competition in 2014. The objective of both projects is to simulate a tactile sensation through the act of seeing.
The first light is inspired by the coral reef and is designed to refract and reflect light similar to water. The objective is achieved by adhering mylar within the light. The coral pattern was hand cut and creates a pattern similar to light captured through water.
The second light implements the warm light of incandescent bulbs placed within real chicken eggs that creates a warm spherical glow. The shards of wood that became the nest where the eggs live creates sharp shadows that beautifully contrast the warm glow of the eggs.
The light was modeled after coral and meant to create a light effect similar to water.
